Patrick Doyle to Reunite with Kenneth Branagh on Disney’s ‘Cinderella’

Film Music Reporter, 7 June 2013

Patrick Doyle is attached to score Disney’s upcoming live-action reimagining of 'Cinderella'. Lily James ('Downton Abbey') is set to star in the title role and Cate Blanchett is playing the evil stepmother. Richard Madden ('Game of Thrones') has been cast as Prince Charming. Aline Brosh McKenna ('The Devil Wears Prada') and Chris Weitz ('About a Boy') are writing the screenplay based on the classic fairy tale. Allison Shearmur ('The Hunger Games': 'Catching Fire'), David Barron ('Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix') and Simon Kinberg ('Sherlock Holmes', 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith') are producing the project. Doyle and Branagh have previously worked together on such films as 'Henry V', 'Hamlet', 'Frankenstein', 'Much Ado About Nothing' and 'Thor'. Cinderella is expected to be released in 2014 by Walt Disney Pictures.

As previously reported, Doyle is also scoring Branagh’s thriller 'Jack Ryan'. The composer has also composed a new score for the 1928 silent movie 'IT' starring Clara Bow, commissioned by The Syracuse Film Festival, which will its world premiere at Syracuse’s Landmark Theatre on October 5, 2013. It has also been announced this week that Doyle is composing the score for the video game 'Puppeteer' for PlayStation 3. The title will be released this September. Check out the official Puppeteer website to learn more about the game.

One is understandably loath to go into the prophecy business given the outcome of 'Macbeth', but a compelling performance from Branagh looks to be a reasonably safe prediction.

'Macbeth', at a venue to announced in Manchester city centre (0844 375 2017) 4 to 20 July. There will be a National Theatre Live broadcast on 20 July.
