Avatar Effects Studio to Work on Kenneth Branagh's 'Thor'
Coventry Telegraph, 2 February 2010 French company BUF is to serve as the lead visual effects house on Kenneth Branagh's 'Thor', reports Variety. Notably, BUF worked on James Cameron's eye-popping 'Avatar'; it was behind such scenes as the 'tunnel' seen in the transfer process between human and avatar form as well as several shots of Earth from space. It's good news for 'Thor', which will involve such out-of-this-world visuals as the gods' realm Asgard, the rainbow bridge Bifrost connecting it to Earth, and the dramatic powers of Thor and his fellow deities. BUF - whose website can be seen here - also worked on last year's sci-fi movie 'Knowing' and previously on such films as 'The Dark Knight', 'Babylon AD', 'Spider-Man 3', 'The Prestige' and 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire'. Its involvement in 'Thor' will bring tax benefits to the production. The film, based on Marvel's comics and starring Chris Hemsworth in the title role, has started production and will be released in May, 2011.
