Thanks, Jane

His glittering 35 year career was just honoured with a special excellence award at the Critics' Circle Film ceremony.

So no wonder Kenneth Branagh's smile was hard to disguise when he was seen leaving London on Monday night for a trip to Los Angeles.

The actor, producer and director, 55, lead his art director wife Lindsay Brunnock through LAX airport with a protective hand that night, beaming from ear-to-ear during a rare dual appearance.

Kenneth, who received the Dilys Powell Award for excellence in film on Sunday night, looked distinguished in clear frame spectacles and a long coat on arrival in the States.

His deep ivy-coloured jumper and otherwise all-black outfit did nothing to help him blend into the surroundings and the duo were star-spotted instantly. Lindsay was similarly dressed from top-to-toe in dark shades, dressing in leggings for comfort and flat shoes for ease as they passed through arrivals with intent.

The art director maintained a little showbiz about her image and wore her shades indoors while she carried just her phone in one hand.

Kenneth and Lindsay are rarely seen together, last taking to the red carpet as a couple in March when he made the transition from Shakespeare to Disney with his latest directorial cut on Cinderella.

Stage star Kenneth was previously married to actress Emma Thompson for six years and dated Helena Bonham Carter for several years before settling down with Lindsay in 2003.

It was another wonderful woman who was behind Sunday night's awards delight nonetheless, since Dame Judy Dench was on hand to award to star his special accolade at the London Critics' Choice event.

Dame Judi, 81, went in for an affectionate clinch with the screen icon after presenting him the award on stage, which also included verbal and visual tributes to his storied career.

The Dilys Powell Award for Excellence in Film was made in honour of the eponymous Sunday Times critic, who he said he once had the pleasure of meeting.

Judi and Kenneth recently shared the stage on 'A Winter's Tale', as part of the first season of the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company.'
