Crucible Theatre Fundraising Campaign

Friends! I'm sure quite a few of you who visit the Compendium had the wonderful experience of seeing Kenneth Branagh as Richard III at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. Perhaps you have also seen other memorable productions there.

The Crucible Theatre has embarked on a fundraising campaign. In the words of Michael Grandage, Associate Director:

"We are launching an ambitious project that will revolutionise everything about the Crucible except the masterpiece that is Tanya Moiseiwitsch’s stage and auditorium design. Our dream is for a Crucible with better facilities throughout:
  • new rehearsal spaces
  • improved access for people with disabilities
  • meeting and hospitality suites
  • dedicated education spaces
If you would like to contribute you can find detailed information and a donor form in this PDF file: Crucible Campaign Brochure. Very good news for US donors is that, thanks to a collaboration with the American Fund for Charities, their contribution is tax deductible.

Here is what Kenneth Branagh says in the brochure:

"The Sheffield Crucible gave me a fantastic creative experience. It’s a fantastic resource, a fantastic part of the cultural life of the city. It benefits enormously from your support and I hope that you will continue to give it because it’s a great place to do plays".
If you read about the campaign here and decide to contribute, please write "Ken" on your donation form... our Sheffield friends would be pleased to know that Ken-Friends are helping. Thanks!
