Branagh Joining The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society?, 4 August 2011

Kenneth Branagh may have found his next project with an adaptation of Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows' best-seller, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Variety reports.

"The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society takes place on the island of Guernsey," says co-author Annie Barrows on the book's official site, "which is in the English channel, during the second World War when the island was occupied by the Germans. It's about a group of eccentric locals and transplanted Londoners who come together at a particularly inauspicious moment to form a book club. It's about the books that they read and how they grow to love one another and save one another during that time."

Branagh, who earlier this year directed Marvel's 'Thor', is said to be interested in directing the 20th Century Fox property with a script by Dan Roos ('Marley & Me').

Branagh has also been attached to an adaptation of Henning Mankell's novel, Italian Shoes, which would re-team the director with star Anthony Hopkins. Where that project falls on Branagh's schedule remains to be seen but, during press for 'Thor', Hopkins told that it was still likely to happen.
